Final Reflection
Overall the internship was a learning experience. I am able to add this to my resume and it will help me with getting a job further down the road. I have worked in a football environment and also a basketball environment. I am able to use Coach Buccilla and Coach Sullinger as references if I am looking to seek and job.
Coaching and Networking
I noticed that when having basketball tournaments held at your facility coaches are able to be there and scout/evaluate talent themselves. I noticed that Coach Buccilla had friendly relationships with almost every coach there and it is a good way of networking. Say if Tiffin was scouting a basketball layer from Tiffin Colombian all the coach has to do is say hey I'm interested in one of your players and get a better connection.
Coach Buccilla also introduced himself and shook every players hand that walked into the facility. I'm sure that these players will remember him just because he is always interested in meeting new players and a good welcoming. Some other coaches that were involved with helping at the tournaments were Coach Sullinger, Rudy, and Coach Dana

Difference between basketball and football
There was not much difference between the my football internship and this one as I use the same skills for the job. It's important to have communication skills when working in the offices with coaches, and athletic directors. I learned a lot from the football internship because I worked very hard because of the amount of players on a roster compared to basketball who has around 15. Most of the projects that I had to do I was prepared for such as making Excel sheets with information on them lined up and organized in columns.
You look for different particular skills when scouting for these sports. Size and weight is always important when scouting. With football your always looking for a linebacker that is about 6'2 240 pounds and with looking for a power forward on the could he needs to be at least 6 '6 and have some weight. There is a big difference in competition an size from high school sports to the collegiate level.

Recruit Day
The last day of the tournament after it was over Coach Buccilla was taking the recruits out to eat at the Pioneer Mill. I was invited to come as there were about 12 of us eating ribs, burgers, and fries. The NBA draft was also on television and we watched the majority of the draft. Most of the recruits were about 6 foot and up even a player that was about 6 '8. Most of them were from the Ohio area as well.
Tournament 2
The second tournament was held in late July. Many of the teams that played in the previous tournament came back to play but there were also new teams from the Ohio area that came and participated. Varsity games are much harder to referee than junior varsity game as the athletes are much bigger and faster. Most of the varsity games were held in the Gilmore as others were helping sell concessions to the players. There was pizza, Gatorade, and doughnuts are were sold at low prices.
After the second game of refereeing it gets pretty tiring running down and back on the court. People were to rotate jobs throughout the tournament for example I would ref, work the scoreboard, work concessions and then have a break. We got plenty of compliments from the parents about the whole tournament and that we did a great job setting up as they watched their children play from the stands.

Refereeing and Scoreboard
During the tournament held at Tiffin University we had an official referee who knew what he was doing and it was interesting to learn how hard it can referee the game of basketball. The game of basketball moves quite quick and players are running full speed and it can be hard making a decision on a call that quick. It's important to stay focused at all times because a player can double dribble at any second. We also have to deal with coaches who always do not agree with the call.
Another job was the tournament was running the clocks where we also kept track of score, timeouts and jump balls. There were a number of 4 basketball courts being used with 8 clocks on each table and 2 referees at each game. The setup of the tournament made it easy for parents to watch a number of games at once with the great seating in the Hemminger Center.

Practice Schedules
The job we had this week was to setup practice schedules for the returning players for the fall. The players have workouts that take about 2 hours so for each player we print out their class schedule and see when they are available. Each player needs to workout with 2 other teammates that are in the same position and who have similar schedules. We had some players who would workout in the morning, afternoon, and we had some players we scheduled for the evening.
We built a chart for Coach Buccilla so he is able to see when his players are working out throughout the day. I worked in the athletic office and used one of the GA's offices to use word documents and excel to build the charts. We had everything printed to the main athletic office printer where we would pick up the schedules and organize them for the coach.

Sixth Week- Inventory
Today our jobs were to handle the inventory. Coach Sullinger had Marcus and I carry and separate new gear to the basketball locker room for the players. Some of the gear we handled were new warm ups, jerseys, and shorts. There are about 30 lockers and about 16 players who's locker we setup ready for them when they arrive for camp.
Fifth Week- Basketball tournament
The week of the basketball tournament was a long and tiring process. My job was to prepare the day before the tournament and setup in the Hemminger Center. We had to bring chairs, tables, towels, concessions, benches, whistles, and referee shirts. Teams were flowing into the facility and began their warm ups before playing. Myself, Marcus, coaches on campus, and a few basketball players from the team were their to either work the concession stand, work the clocks, or referee the games.
Each referee received a stripped shirt and a whistle to make the calls during the games. It can be hard at times making calls and having coaches disagree with them but it's important to go with your call and support the other referee if they make the call. As a group we received lots of compliments from coaches and the parents of the high school players for putting in the time to referee and giving the kids a great time. After the tournament everyone is tired and exhausted with the games having 2 halves with 20 minutes each while running up and down the court making calls.

Fourth Week- Calling schools about tournament
Today our jobs were to create schedules for the high school and junior varsity teams that were arriving next for the basketball tournament. There were about 20 teams that had returned our phone calls and chose to participate in the tournament. Every team were to play each other at least 3 times and have 20 minute breaks in between games. When the teams were to arrive we had to make sure they received their schedule with their highlighted games and the times of the games.
Third Week- AAU recruits
Coach Bucilla's assignment for this week was to go through a packet of basketball AAU tournaments being held all over the nation and highlight ones that were reachable. For example, any tournaments that were in the Ohio area or perhaps in the next state were reachable and we record these so the coaches can go to these tournaments and scout recruits. Most of the tournaments were held in far places such as Vegas, Florida, and down south which were out of reach of the coaches.
My job was to also research some of the scouted recruits AAU basketball schedules and print them out for the coaches. This is so they are able to go on trips to watch these scouts perform on the basketball court and to see if they are able to play of Tiffin University. The internet became a handy tool in searching for recruits and finding their schedules we use computers almost everyday at our internship.

Second Week- Call all high school Ohio basketball teams
This week my job was to get ahold of all high school and middle schools in the state of Ohio and let them know about a upcoming shootout camp being held at Tiffin University. There was a long list of schools to call and my job was to speak with the basketball coaches or the athletic directors and give them information about the camp. I heard to use my communication skills with informing the coaches of these camps and letting them know that I look forward to speaking with them.
I also had to research each schools phone number, location, and address so that we can mail them brochures about the camp. The brochure was full of information about a basketball tournament that was being held in mid July and the end of July. So we had to write down the address on a envelope and send them brochuers throughout the week and keep calling to see if they received the brochures and it was a success.

First Week
I did my internship with my friend Marcus Beauream and we were to come in early and work the mornings to afternoons. Coach Buccilla would have our assignments for the day to complete. Our first assignment were to evaluate highlight tapes of recruits the coaches thought that could play at Tiffin University. I watched different positions such as the points gaurds, centers, power forwards etc. and rate that player on a 1-5 scale.
I have to see if this player would be able to make these points in an actual game, would he be able to box out a division II basketball player or does he have the ball handling skills to be a collegiate point guard. We were to report our evaluations to the coach and give him our opinion about the player. If the player was good enough to be a collegiate basketball player then the coaches would invite that player for a shootout which were held in the Gilmore on Tiffin University campus.

First Day
My internship for the Tiffin Basketball team began May 20th, 2013. Same time last year I was working for the Tiffin football team and it was interesting learning how different the environment, recruiting, and the number of coaches there were. I met with the head basketball Coach Buccilla and also the assistant Coach Sullinger and the big difference was there were only 2 coaches instead of 10 plus with the football team.
I always had a passion for basketball since I was a kid and being around the game was exciting for me because I know the game. My first day I was not nervous because my intern I completed last year was 10 times as hard because a basketball team only holds maybe 15 players compared to a football team who can hold up to 150 players.
